Abstract
This chapter is concerned with the biotechnology applications to two important crops, potato and tea in Kenya. Potato is an important source of food for the Kenyan poor, one third of which is grown by the small holders. Kenya is the world’s fourth largest tea exporter. Tea is also the second largest foreign exchange earner for Kenya. More than one in every ten small-scale farmers grow tea on their farms. The crop is thus indicated as being of great importance to the nation in terms of the generation of income, foreign exchange and employment.
