Abstract

Agriculture is the main source of income of the world’s poor. The greatest numbers of poor people, including the very poorest, live in the rural areas. It is not surprising that their livelihoods are linked to the efficiency and productivity of agriculture, whether or not they derive their incomes directly from it (World Bank, 1990).
