Abstract

The process by which an organism obtains its food materials in order to carry out its vital functions is called nutrition. As far as Man is concerned, this is really a question of buying the right quantity and quality of food to form the diet. A balanced diet supplies optimum amounts of each type of nutrient. These amounts will vary with such factors as age, sex and occupation.
