Abstract
The law of increase of entropy is the most general statement of the second law of thermodynamics, but its very generality means that it is often not the most convenient form of statement in a particular situation. Many real situations may be modelled as the interaction of a system with a single reservoir and the law of increase of entropy may be applied as follows.
