Abstract
Most intonation contours can be described using pitch information alone. For example, in the model developed by Bruce (1977), Pierrehumbert (1980), and others, a contour may be represented as a sequence of pitch targets (tones), together with an algorithm for lining up the tone sequence with any given linguistic text:
