Abstract

It was a fascinating idea to bring together researchers in musicology, speech sciences, psychology, and neurophysiology. Speech and music represent two of the most specific high-level skills of the human species. There are obvious affinities between these activities, and it is highly fruitful to compare the subject-matters of the two fields, the salient issues within each field, and the methods applied to the analysis of musical and linguistic structures.
