Abstract

Package tours by air have revolutionised the tourist industry. In the 1950s, travel agents recognised that, by chartering entire aircraft and ‘packaging’ the combination of an aircraft seat and a hotel bedroom into an ‘inclusive tour by air’, they could achieve greater profits than selling independent travel for fixed rates of commission.
