Abstract
With the recent passing of the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986, and the two Criminal Justice Acts of 1987 and 1988, the Government and Parliament have provided the courts with new powers with which to re-assert the old saw that ‘crime does not pay’. Under provisions which in certain cases enable the confiscation of assets, the courts have been empowered to deprive convicted offenders of the profits of their criminal enterprise.
