Abstract
This chapter should be of special interest to anyone responsible for comparing quotations for refrigerating plants from different competitors. The problem lies in the fact that several different solutions are possible for the same project. It is true to say that refrigerating plants, even of the same refrigerating capacity, can be built for a wide range of prices. It all depends on the choice of the design concept; however, because of manufacturing standardization and the small number of plant-manufacturers now in business, price differences between 5 and 15% can only be explained by differences in the individual overall concept of the plants — no longer can they be attributed to the quality of components.
