The Early Post-war Period

  • Neil Fodor

It is not the purpose of this chapter to discuss the post-war years and the origins of the Cold War. Such aspects of the political and military division of Europe are amply covered elsewhere in the academic literature of both East and West. However, in their discussion of the origins of the Warsaw Treaty Organization (WTO), Soviet historians do briefly mention events prior to 1954–55. As an introduction to the analysis of the WTO proper, this chapter will outline how the Soviet literature introduces the topic of this thesis.
