Abstract
I am directing your attention to the disturbing fact that the very future of animal research is threatened by militant animal rights activists. Professor Bishop has elaborated on how animal research has contributed to our concepts of normal visual processing and it is the purpose of this discussion to show how such research has enhanced our understanding of the mechanism of amblyopia and influenced our therapy of a condition that causes visual impairment in 2% of our population and is a potential cause of blindness in case of loss of the good eye.
