Abstract

The place in which an organism lives is called its habitat. And the scientific study of organisms in their natural surroundings — their environment — is called ecology (Greek oikos = a home). Ecologists study how organisms affect one another, and how they are affected by physical factors such as climate, the lie of the land, and soil conditions.
