Abstract

Baillie Gifford is a medium-sized investment management firm which was founded in 1908. The firm, which is a partnership, is wholly independent; investment management for institutional clients is its sole business activity. The company has over 100 staff, 31 of whom are investment professionals, representing a relatively high number in relation to its 62 clients. Pension fund management is the fastest growing part of the business, accounting for about 60% of the more than $4.5 billion of assets under management. The company has considerable expertise in both balanced and all equity portfolios, and has produced consistently good results for its clients over the medium term. It also has acknowledged expertise in regional funds, e.g. Japan, the UK and Europe.
