Abstract

Farming in Australia started with the First Fleet settlers 200 years ago. Since those early beginnings the achievements in agriculture have been remarkable and today, Australia’s rural sector is one of the most efficient in the world Australia is by far the largest wool exporter, accounting for 60 per cent of world wool exports. It is among the top five wheat exporters, is the second largest beef exporter and ranks third on the list of major sugar exporters. Rural exports account for over one-third of Australia’s export income.
