Licensing, Franchising, and Other Contractual Arrangements

Abstract

This part concerns the sale of knowledge rather than the sale of goods—licensing, franchising, management contracts and other similar arrangements. Accounting for 12% to 13% of British trade, these methods of earning money abroad have become more popular in recent years. Often regarded as second best to export or direct investment, substantial returns are yet produced, on minimal investment, risk is reduced and new markets are penetrated in this way.
