Abstract
In practical (or factual) writing assignments and questions you are given certain material which must be used in a practical, everyday situation indicated by the examiners’ instructions. The exercise tests your ability to write briefly, clearly and accurately. Because the instructions strictly control both the content and the purpose of your writing, practical writing is sometimes called ‘directed writing’.
