Abstract
Change within organisations can be either reactive or proactive. The former approach is illustrated by the company who suddenly cancels the Christmas party and the annual staff bonus because of a downturn in the market when only three months earlier it was recruiting new staff. Reactive change occurs when organisations are forced to react to external or internal pressures. Crisis management is another name given to it.
