Power Balance and Related Discharge Properties

The High-Pressure Sodium Lamp

Part of the book series: Philips Technical Library ((PTL))

Abstract

For the designer of HPS lamps it is desirable to have a model for the gas discharge. Such a model can help him to obtain a better understanding of the relationships between lamp parameters such as geometry of the discharge tube, the discharge-tube filling and the lamp current on the one hand and lamp properties such as lamp voltage and radiant efficiency on the other. It can also help him to limit the number of experiments needed for optimising lamp design.
