Abstract

The European Community (EC or the Community) consists of: six original member states (Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands); three members who joined in 1973 (Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom); Greece who joined as a full member in January 1981; and Portugal and Spain who joined in January 1986. Turkey has submitted an application for full membership.
