Abstract

Biotechnology is an old technology. Thus, many laws and regulations that already exist in the Federal Republic of Germany will apply to the activities associated with biotechnology. Most of these restrictions were not developed for the purpose of addressing issues raised by biotechnology. Indeed, many of these laws were implemented before the development of the modern biotechnology industry.

Prof. Dr. Werner Frommer of Bayer, AG, Leverkusen, Federal Republic of Germany, is the Contributing Author for this section.
