Abstract

Many teachers, often with a glazed faraway look in their eyes, at some time express in various ways the sentiment, ‘If only I had control of the rewards and sanctions available to parents, most of my difficulties would fade away.’ Most teachers would agree, however, that perhaps while it would not necessarily be quite that easy, the sentiment certainly contains a good deal of truth and such control would certainly provide opportunities for more effective work in the classroom.
