Summary

The paper describes the CADCAM case history in the Fläkt Group, and how it has developed from 1970 until now.

Fläkt’s activities are based on substantial know-how in air and energy technology. In the design, marketing and other areas the CADCAM technology has started to be utilized in the Group.

The applications vary from detail and electrical design, via big industrial applications such as precipitators and paint finishing applications to contracting applications in HVAC, and finally CAM applications and how they are closely linked to the CAD information.

The economy in the investments and the special technical adaptions in as well hardware and software are described, and also how considerations were made in a big industrial organization like Fläkt to facilitate communication between subsidiaries around the world.

The different CAM applications and problems and benefits encountered are described.

The formation of a corporate CADCAM Coordination Group and an International Reference Group for CADCAM and introduction of a Corporate CADCAM policy is also described.

Finally the expected future scenario is described and discussed.
