Abstract
The importance of vision in the development of early parent — child communication has been emphasized in a number of studies during the last decades (see eg Bruner, 1975; Bower, 1977; Trevarthen, 1979; Kaye and Fogel, 1980). Studies of deaf children in interaction with parents, siblings and peers give further evidence of the importance of vision in early interaction (see eg Norden, 1981; Preisler, 1981;1983;1984).
