Abstract

You will be familiar with the simple Brönsted-Lowry definition of acids and bases. An acid is a substance which can donate a proton, and a base is a substance which can accept a proton. Thus, when hydrogen chloride dissolves in water, an molecule acts as an acid and donates a proton to a water molecule functioning as a base
