Abstract

Two-dimensional drawings which are used to represent three-dimensional molecules are called projections. For particular purposes Newman, Fischer and other projections may be employed, but in discussion of basic organic reaction mechanisms at an introductory level, simple planar formulae are generally quite satisfactory. These may be full Lewis structures in which electron pairs are shown as dots or solid lines
