Summary
At sub-toxic concentrations, DAB and BZD induced statistically significant, dose-related increases in the frequency of SCE in V79 4K1 cells in the presence of S9 mix (derived from the livers of male rats pretreated with Aroclor 1254, or with a combination of pheno-barbitone and β-naphthoflavone). Considerable inter cell variation in the frequency of SCE was observed after treatment with BZD. This was not due to the presence of different subclones of varying sensitivity to the active metabolite(s) but may be indicative of an S-phase effect. Sample B of CDA yielded statistically significant increases in SCE frequency although a dose-response was not obtained. DAT was inactive in the SCE assay with or without S9 mix.
