Most statutory employment rights, including the right to statutory– redundancy pay, are only available to ‘employees’ as defined by the– Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978 (EP(C)A). Nonemployees– - e.g. people who run their own businesses - are expected– to carry such risks as ‘redundancy’ themselves, without– cushioning from legislation. There are, however, certain exceptions.– ––
