Who Is Covered by the Legislation?
Most statutory employment rights, including the right to statutory– redundancy pay, are only available to ‘employees’ as defined by the– Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978 (EP(C)A). Nonemployees– - e.g. people who run their own businesses - are expected– to carry such risks as ‘redundancy’ themselves, without– cushioning from legislation.
