Abstract
In the previous essay, Seamus O’Neill traces the fortunes of literature in Irish from the earliest times to the present day, and the dictionary proper is made up largely of articles about Irish authors who have written in English. However, a brief summary of the history of Irish writing in the English language may be of use as a supplement to the chronological tables.
