Abstract

In order to minimize the flash in closed die forging the biscuit has to be accurately preformed. For this purpose a numerical computer program is developed by means of which preform geometries can be predicted which result in a flashless sample after the finishing forging. The analysis is based on the Upper Bound Elemental Technique, UBET, and is restricted to forging of axi-symmetric components.
