Abstract
Ergolines are structurally complex dopamine agonists and their pharmacological effects are obscured by possible participation of α1-, α2-adrenoceptor activation and/or serotonin (5-HT1/5-HT2) receptor stimulation, which may also explain various side effects of these drugs (McPherson and Beart, 1983). This non-selectivity also occurs in the more recently introduced oxaergolines such as RU 29717 (Boissier et al., 1983), although to a lesser extent. Thus there is an increasing need for developing potent dopamine agonists showing a selectivity for DA receptors as compared to their affinity for other receptor types.
