Abstract
In keeping with the narrow geographical confines of the novel, the number of characters is small. The two households of Earnshaw and Linton are a world in themselves and we know practically nothing of the lives of the people of Gimmerton, let alone those from farther afield. Inevitably when discussing other aspects of the novel quite a lot has been said about the characters. However, it is useful to look at some of them more closely.
