Abstract
For many young people leaving school or college, unemployment is a big problem. The chances of finding work or acquiring further vocational training cannot always be guaranteed and will depend a lot on where you live. Youngsters of the 1980s have the misfortune to be entering the work-market at a time when there is a world economic recession. The situation in Britain is bad because other countries are making cheaper goods than ours and are competing with us on the world markets. Also many computerised machines are doing the jobs people used to do, so fewer people are needed to produce the goods we sell.
