The propaganda put out by the Marcos government through the official press, and by those supporting American financial and political interests in the Far East, about the irritation rather than the threat of the NPA was very far from the truth. In effect, the revolution began many years ago and Filipinos continue to engage in what they describe as a ‘protracted war’. As discussed in Chapter 8, the 1986 election brought about cosmetic change only, and the release of political prisoners. The Philippines revolution has yet to occur.
