Abstract

Since the decline of the Moscow détente nearly a decade ago, little has occurred which would suggest the coming of a new era of superpower détente. Indeed, of late, the US-Soviet relationship has been characterised by a higher level of tension than at any time since the Cold War. Due to a lack of historical perspective, the history of this stage has yet to be written. Nonetheless, the last eight years provide an interesting period in which to consider the conclusions of this study.
