Abstract
Just as the metal worker must know about the properties of the tool steels that he uses for cutting, so too must the glass worker know about the action of the abrasives and polishing compounds that he uses. Similarly, the metal worker has to work with several different metals and alloys, each with their own hardness and cutting properties, whereas the glassworker has many different optical glasses and crystals to consider.
