Nowadays most factories and plants realise the importance of investing time and effort to study and maintain an efficient lubrication plan for their works, though some still do not. However, not so long ago the application of lubricants was considered a menial task and was left to the unskilled or untrained. The science surrounding the lubricant at all stages in its progress from the oilfield often deserted the highly refined finished product at its point of use. The planning that prevailed in most other functions of management in the pursuit of efficiency was often noticeably absent in the field of lubrication.
