Abstract

Photosynthesis is essentially the conversion of light energy to usable chemical energy. The basic requirements for the entire process are seen from the overall equation (compare pp. 143f.)
$$ C{O_2} + 4{H_2}O\xrightarrow[{chlorophyll}]{{light}}\left( {C{H_2}O} \right) + 3{H_2}O + {O_2} $$
