Abstract
Although both Swedish and Finnish literatures could with reason be called Baltic, and although Finnish is very close to Estonian, there are by common consent only three so-called Baltic Literatures: Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian. All three of these countries have been grabbed by and incorporated into Soviet Russia, whereas Sweden and Finland have escaped that fate; the grouping is therefore appropriate, despite the very close cultural links between Estonia and Finland.
