Abstract

This paper tackles the question whether Karl Marx’s theory of labour value is still useful in explaining today’s international division of labour. Does Marx’s theory help us to understand the new structures of world market prices? Or have we to ask with Henri Lefèbvre in the sub-title of one of his books: ‘Faut-il abandonner Marx?’ Lefèbvre answers ‘mais non’-a view expressed in his book’s title, according to which Marx’s theory is Une pensée devenue monde (Lefèbvre, 1980).
