Abstract
The University of Reading emerged as a centre of Yeats studies in the 1950s with a photographic exhibition organised by the late Professor D. J. Gordon and colleagues in the English department. This, together with the accompanying descriptive guide attracted so much attention that a larger and more elaborate exhibition was put together on the basis of the first, and was shown in Manchester and Dublin in the summer of 1961. The published catalogue W. B. Yeats: Images of a Poet (Manchester 1961), a standard work, has recently been reprinted by the Greenwood Press (Westport, Conn., 1979).
