Abstract

A sixteen years old boy, who was said by the police to have stated that he had been sent over by an illegal organisation to ‘reorganise further operations in Liverpool’, was sentenced at Liverpool Assizes today to three years’ Borstal detention. He was Brendan Behan, a painter, of Kildare Road, Dublin, who smiled as he stood in the dock accused of being in possession of explosives, and declared that he had no interest in the proceedings of the court. His ‘No Interest’ remark was construed as a plea of not guilty.
