Many children have difficulty learning to read and to spell. Although tests are available to help the teacher assess the progress the child has made, these tests are primarily designed for children who can already read and generally do not give any information about the causes of the child’s problem. This manual, on the other hand, has been written to help teachers assess skills related to learning to read in children who have made little or no progress or whose failure to progress beyond the most basic level is puzzling.
