Abstract

Within a space of nine days New York has had an opportunity to see one of Sean O’Casey’s earliest plays and one of his latest. Shadow of a Gunman (1923), which was put on last Thursday, is the first O’Casey play acted by Dublin’s Abbey Theatre.1 Cock-a-Doodle Dandy, which opened Nov. 12, represents the epic style in which he was writing in 1949.2
