This chapter, ‘What does it do?’, and the following one, ‘How does it do it?’, could well have been combined into one chapter about the operation of a word processor. They have been written separately for a reason. The casual reader, or one who simply wants to know what a word processor will do, may not want to get bogged-down in command sequences and switch codes. The serious student, who needs to know about the principles of word processor operation, either in preparation for training as a word processor operator or for examination purposes, needs to go a little deeper.
