Abstract

While haemorrhages associated with severe infectious disease are not uncommon — for instance, in haemorrhagic varicella or the Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome in acute meningococcaemia — the occurrence of haemorrhagic tendency as a characteristic clinical feature has led to the grouping together of certain viral diseases under the heading of Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF).
