Summary

The compaction and liquid phase sintering behaviour of an annealled partially mechanically alloyed tungsten (80%) copper (20%) powder prepared in an unusual small volume high energy ball-mill was studied and compared with that of a powder mixture.

The performance and operating parameters of the ball mill used to manufacture the alloy were investigated using a dimensional analysis approach together with a direct measurement of the contact pressures achieved. These were then compared with those found in other forms of ball- mill.
