Karl Ziegler demonstrated how far he was from being an ivory tower academic by how promptly and aggressively he pursued useful and profitable employment for his brainchildren. We have already seen (Ch. 3) from his action after the discovery of the ‘growth reaction’ that he was well aware that patents are important and that tight agreements, like tight fences, make good neighbours.
