Abstract

Bealby: A Holiday was written early in 1914 and published as a book in the following year. The subtitle is significant, for the novel marks a respite from the preoccupation with sexual and social problems which dominated Wells’s fiction during these years and a return to the lighthearted manner of Mr. Polly.
