Abstract
The annelids are segmented worms. The majority are marine animals of shallow water. Some are free-swimming, but others build temporary or permanent tubes or burrows in which they live a sedentary existence. Better known members of the phylum are the earthworms, which also have related species in freshwater. The leeches form a distinct group found as predators or parasites in freshwater or moist soil.
