A Critical Overview of Diagnosis in Psychiatry

Abstract

On a program that has produced so many stimulating but divergent viewpoints, I have the distinction of being not only the last speaker, but also the only one who has had no graduate exposure to psychiatric instruction and no formal experience in psychiatric practice. I can therefore make my remarks without inhibition, uncommitted to any particular school of thought and unencumbered by any intimate adventures in the clinical challenge of making psychiatric diagnoses.
